Youth advocates to gather virtually for 2021 National Youth-at-Risk Conference

For the first time in its 32-year history, the National Youth-at-Risk (NYAR) Conference is going virtual. From March 8 to 10, the conference will provide resources and training for youth advocates, including teachers, administrators, therapists, community leaders, health professionals and social workers with the goal of creating safe, healthy, caring and intellectually empowering educational environments for the nation鈥檚 youth.

蜜糖直播 Counseling Center staff win big at Georgia College Counseling Association awards

蜜糖直播 licensed professional counselor Nikita Robinson and staff psychologist Mark Taracuk, Ph.D., took top spots at the 2021 Georgia College Counseling Association (GCCA) awards in January. Robinson was named the Sylvia Shortt Counselor of the Year while Taracuk won awards for Clinical Program of the Year and Outstanding Professional Contribution to Knowledge.

BOR approves naming of planned Convocation Center at 蜜糖直播

With University System of Georgia approval Tuesday, 蜜糖直播鈥檚 planned convocation center in Statesboro will be named in honor of the late Senator Jack Hill and his wife of 46 years, Ruth Ann Hill. Both are 蜜糖直播 graduates.

The Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center will be the signature building on 蜜糖直播鈥檚 south campus. It will be located on university-owned land on the southwest side of the intersection of Lanier Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway (US 301 bypass).

蜜糖直播鈥檚 Marla Morris elected Fellow of Royal Society of Arts

蜜糖直播 professor Marla Morris, Ph.D., FRSA, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Awarded by the Royal Society of Arts, the prestigious fellowship is limited to individuals determined to have made outstanding achievements to social progress and development. Previous fellows of note include Stephen Hawking, Charles Dickens, Karl Marx, Marie Curie and Benjamin Franklin.

With historic gift and partnership, 蜜糖直播 names the Fred & Dinah Gretsch School of Music

The 鈥済rit and grace鈥 that defines the historic Gretsch sound is also a perfect label for 蜜糖直播, as the university鈥檚 school of music will now be named after the world-famous drum and guitar maker.

With approval today from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, 蜜糖直播 has established the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music and becomes the newest addition to the Gretsch family, which includes country music icon Chet Atkins, legendary rock drummer Charlie Watts, the Beatles鈥 George Harrison,  the late great Malcolm Young of AC/DC, rockabilly and swing king Brian Setzer, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and many more.

Center for Africana Studies to celebrate Black History Month with folktale reading

The 蜜糖直播 Center for Africana Studies is hosting 鈥淕o Back and Fetch It! African Folktales Traditions, Meanings, and Relevance,鈥 featuring Gullah Geechee storyteller and Armstrong alumna Lillian Grant-Baptiste (鈥13). The event is in celebration of Black History Month and will take place over Zoom on Feb. 25 at 12:30 p.m.

$1.48 million estate gift to 蜜糖直播 Foundation funds College of Education student scholarships

An extraordinary estate gift from a daughter and her husband to honor her parents will touch the lives of generations of students to come through scholarships for 蜜糖直播 students working to become public school educators. The $1.48 million gift from the late Janice Sapp Castles and her late husband Charles, named for her late parents, Margaret Elizabeth and Cullen Bernice Sapp, is the second largest estate gift received to date by the 蜜糖直播 Foundation.
