ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ launches new merchandise line to benefit ‘Freedom’ and the Wildlife Center

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ is launching a new brand and merchandise line that will benefit and honor Freedom, the University’s live bald eagle mascot that flies before each home game in what many call the “most exciting 30 seconds in college football.â€

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ turns into the Wild Wild West for Homecoming 2023 Oct. 15-21

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ will celebrate the “Wild Wild West in the Eagle’s Nest†Homecoming 2023 Oct. 15-21. The week-long observance plays host to thousands of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ alumni, current students and community members. The celebration includes a variety of special events, reunions, social gatherings and a parade. The week is highlighted by the Eagles Homecoming game at Paulson Stadium and the announcement of the Homecoming king and queen.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Economic Monitor Q2: Regional economy slowed; Savannah will avoid recession 

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s most recent Economic Monitor reflects that the Savannah metro area’s economy slowed during the second quarter of the year, and a local recession is unlikely.

National Science Foundation awards almost $3M to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ to launch research and mentoring program 

The National Science Foundation awarded nearly $3 million to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ to launch the Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates (RaMP) program. At each university, RaMP supports approximately 10 students per year in gaining full-time research experience, mentoring for potential career paths and building a network of professional contacts. 

Beulah Narendrapurapu, Ph.D., receives USG award

Beulah Narendrapurapu, Ph.D., lecturer in ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics in the College of Science and Mathematics, received the 2023 Felton Jenkins, Jr. Hall of Fame Faculty Award presented by the University System of Georgia (USG). 

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ mechanical engineering student recognized in international competition

Mohammad Towhidul Islam Rimon, a mechanical engineering master’s student in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, recently won first place in the best student paper competition at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2023 Power Applied R&D Conference.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ celebrates ‘40 Under 40’ Class of 2023

The ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Alumni Association “40 Under 40†Class of 2023 was recognized at a ceremony on Sept. 29 at the Statesboro Convention & Visitors Bureau. The annual honor recognizes young alumni who have made significant strides in business, leadership, community, educational or philanthropic endeavors. 

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ restoring coastline with oyster habitats

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ has partnered with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Yamaha Rightwaters to rejuvenate a section of the Savannah waterways for oyster beds. As part of these efforts, Eagle faculty and students recently installed bags of oyster shells along the coastline to build shelters for budding populations.

ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ hosts candidate forums for Savannah mayor and city council

On Oct. 2, the University will host candidates for mayor and city council districts 5 and 6 at 6 p.m. On Oct. 4, the same auditorium will host candidates for city council districts 2, 3 and 4 and the city council at-large seats at 6 p.m.

Celebrate: Together Festival returns to the Armstrong Campus on October 12

Celebrate: Together, a festival that celebrates the ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ community on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, will return this year on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Residential Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.
