Tolulope “Tolu” Ojo, a biology graduate student at ֱ, has found her home away from home in Statesboro. Because of her personal belief that community service begins at home, Tolu is a frequent participant in community service events sponsored by the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement.

‘Who Cares? Casual Conversations with Southern Scholars’ podcast makes debut

ֱ’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and College of Education have partnered to host a nontraditional research podcast, “Who Cares? Casual Conversations with Southern Scholars.”

The podcast, which debuted on Sept. 24, focuses on the impact that University research is making on our communities.

ֱ’s wildlife center to reopen Oct. 5

ֱ’s famed Center for Wildlife Education Center and the Lamar Q Ball, Jr. Raptor Center will reopen Monday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m.

Closed since the pandemic hit in March, workers have used the time to refurbish many areas of the center and finish a new observation deck at the waterfowl exhibit. Visitors will be able to enter the enclosure and view 125 ducks representing 16 species, the largest collection of waterfowl in Georgia.

The University Store at ֱ has expanded its digital resources for students and one new program has saved 9,000-plus students more than $565,000 this semester.

The ֱ College of Science and Mathematics (COSM) has signed a memorandum of understanding to partner with the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. The partnership will provide girls with access to opportunities in STEM education.

ֱ to offer free dementia screenings, caregiver psychotherapy sponsored by ROAD Foundation

The Psychology Clinic on the ֱ Statesboro Campus will provide free dementia screenings and psychotherapy for caregivers thanks to a $10,000 donation from Rockin’ Out Alzheimer’s Disease (ROAD). The services will be provided in person and virtually.

ֱ to test emergency communication system on Sept. 24

ֱ is scheduled to test all components of the EAGLE ALERT system on Thursday, Sept. 24, at approximately 1:50 p.m. The EAGLE ALERT system is an emergency communication system designed to play a key role in keeping ֱ’s students, faculty, staff and visitors safe during emergency situations.
