Revealing an upward trend, the Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology program maintained its title as the University鈥檚 most highly ranked online program by rising to No. 27 in Online Master鈥檚 in Criminal Justice Programs. Isabella Rose Lotte Brown thought she was joining a morning round of golf, but was instead surprised by a $9,000 scholarship.

On May 24, the 蜜糖直播 Department of Military & Veteran Services hosted its second annual Golf Scramble fundraiser. Dozens of local leaders and donors played a round at the 蜜糖直播 Golf Course in Statesboro, Georgia.

Among the attendees was Brown, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology student at 蜜糖直播. She鈥檚 an incredibly busy student and had a job interview to rush off to that afternoon, but she was excited for a fun and relaxing morning at the course.

During the pregame ceremony, retired Col. George L. Fredrick, Ed.D., director of Military & Veteran Services, gave Brown a shoutout and so much more.

Waiting just around the corner, was a large (both literally and figuratively) check with Brown鈥檚 name on it. The emotion she showed brought smiles and applause from all of the golfers in attendance.

Brown鈥檚 father, who died when she was 12 years old, wouldn鈥檛 have been at all surprised to see her taking the path she鈥檚 on and achieving what she鈥檚 achieved, she said.

In her young career, she has been involved with military groups like Children of Fallen Patriots, Folds of Honor and others.

鈥淗e put a lot of effort into my studies growing up, even though he was only here for such a short amount of time,鈥� Brown noted. 鈥淗e was a very hands-on father. He was a wonderful father, a wonderful partner. I’m just very, very grateful to have known him, and to have built the relationship. I was a daddy’s girl.鈥�

This program is certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) and offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to accommodate the demanding work schedules of law enforcement agencies. Students in the program follow a unique schedule that features two, three-week modules per semester, requiring only one week of on-site attendance at the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, Georgia. Program participants can complete their degree in just two years.

The EMCJ program is especially beneficial for officers in county and city law enforcement, sheriff鈥檚 department personnel, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia FBI, University System of Georgia law enforcement agencies and more. Through the coursework, students will refine their analytical, research and critical thinking skills, foster a superior understanding of criminal justice and have the chance to network with fellow officers, build relationships and enhance connections nationwide.

The program does not require a nomination, but candidates must hold a bachelor鈥檚 degree from a regionally accredited institution and be a certified, registered or exempt peace officer currently employed with a Georgia law enforcement agency recognized by the Georgia P.O.S.T.
