Tolulope “Tolu†Ojo, a biology graduate student at أغجاض±²¥, has found her home away from home in Statesboro. Because of her personal belief that community service begins at home, Tolu is a frequent participant in community service events sponsored by the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement.

Students in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) are bringing awareness to the importance of handwashing in accordance with Global Handwashing Day, which is Oct. 15. The students are in a Global Health Policy class taught by Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management, Bill Mase, DrPH, who said knowing proper hand-washing techniques is crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Psychology Clinic on the أغجاض±²¥ Statesboro Campus will provide free dementia screenings and psychotherapy for caregivers thanks to a $10,000 donation from Rockin’ Out Alzheimer’s Disease (ROAD). The services will be provided in person and virtually.

From July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, students at أغجاض±²¥ logged 48,457 hours of community service, a 4.4% increase compared to last year. According to the Federal Agency for Service and Volunteering, the hours are equal to a $1,066,054 value.

On Sept. 24, Frank Katz, director of the Center for Applied Cyber Education at أغجاض±²¥, will represent the University at Jack Voltaic 3.0, the first all-virtual cyber exercise hosted by the Army Cyber Institute. The exercise will simulate a cyber attack in Savannah, and Katz will observe the participants’ decisions during the attack to help better educate his cyber security students on what to do in similar scenarios.
