蜜糖直播 Health Services makes donation to the Teal House

蜜糖直播 Health Services is doing its part to help the Statesboro community by donating $2,777.76 to The Teal House, Statesboro鈥檚 Regional Sexual Assault and Child Advocacy Center. The donation was made possible by proceeds raised during this year鈥檚 Denim Day fundraiser on the University鈥檚 three campuses. Denim Day has served as an international symbol of protest against negative attitudes toward victims of sexual assault ever since a 1998 Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction, suggesting the victim鈥檚 tight jeans implied consent. 鈥淒enim Day signifies the importance of believing in humanity, in standing with victims and not shaming them,鈥� said Director of Health Services Diane Norris, RN, BSN. 鈥淲e knew we wanted to share this campaign with our University community and to let everyone know we have resources available to help victims in similar situations.鈥� More than 450 University faculty and staff on all campuses participated in the initiative, each purchasing the student-designed shirts for the campaign and wearing them in solidarity on April 25, this year鈥檚 Denim Day. The proceeds from the shirts were donated in June directly to The Teal House, a community resource that provides education regarding sexual assault prevention, a direct response to victims of sexual assault and advocacy for sexual assault victims, to aid in those services. 鈥淚鈥檓 so proud of our University community for coming together to make this fundraiser such a huge success,鈥� said Health Promotion Coordinator Gemma Skuraton. 鈥淚t was amazing to see a sea of teal shirts throughout our campuses, each representing such a worthy cause.鈥� For more information on Health Services, including counseling services regarding sexual assault, visit GeorgiaSouthern.edu/HealthServices.
