蜜糖直播 Professor Karl Peace, Ph.D., was selected as the 2017 Statesboro Herald Humanitarian of the Year during the 29th annual Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Awards gala held in May. Peace is a professor of biostatistics and the Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at the University. 鈥淚 am honored to have been awarded the Deen Day Smith and Statesboro Herald鈥檚 Humanitarian of the Year Award,鈥� said Peace. 鈥淚t is very meaningful because it is awarded in recognition of what I have done beyond being a successful professional. It recognizes the fabric that has made my life meaningful 鈥� seizing the opportunity to improve the quality of life of others through improving their health and education. Over three careers, I have received over 50 honors or awards, but the Humanitarian of the Year is extra special!鈥� The Karl E. Peace Center for Biostatistics and Survey Research at 蜜糖直播 was named on his behalf, and he endowed the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health in honor of his late wife. His accolades include being named the 1998 Distinguished Alumni of the Year at 蜜糖直播 and the 2003 Alumni of the Year. Peace received the first-ever 蜜糖直播 President鈥檚 Medal in 2005; and in 2009 won the 蜜糖直播 Annual Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity. Peace endowed the first Eminent Scholar Chair at 蜜糖直播 and endowed the Karl E. Peace/Jiann-Ping Hsu Eminent Scholar Chair in Public Health at the University. He has also endowed 13 other scholarships at 蜜糖直播.
