Eighteen young women competed for the title of 鈥淢iss 蜜糖直播鈥� on Saturday and contestant No. 1 Megan Johnson took the crown followed by first runner-up Amanda Merry and second runner-up Layne Livingston. 鈥淚鈥檝e done a few [pageants],鈥� Johnson said, 鈥淏ut this is probably the biggest one I鈥檝e ever done! I鈥檝e won in the past, but all those wins were just leading up to this one.鈥� Johnson is a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority on campus as well as a hardworking, sophomore nursing major. The Savannah native brought home a $2,000 scholarship as well as gifts from sponsors The students competed in several categories including an interview portion, talent, swimsuit, evening wear and a question and answer session. 鈥淢iss Congeniality鈥� and 鈥淔an Favorite鈥� winners were selected as well. The University Programming Board (UPB) worked hard to make this pageant go smoothly. Tyler Flaim, the special events chair, teamed up with other members to plan the event. 鈥淭hings seemed to run pretty seamlessly,鈥� Flaim said. 鈥淎nd the girls looked like they were having a great time on stage. I know they were all really excited about the pageant, and the audience was significantly entertained.鈥� The Miss 蜜糖直播 pageant became an official local preliminary pageant to the Miss Georgia and Miss America Pageants in 1948. This year marks the 67th year for the pageant at 蜜糖直播. 鈥淭his was by far the largest pageant that I鈥檝e ever had a hand in working on,鈥� said Memory Littles, assistant director of 蜜糖直播 UPB. 鈥淲e were a little concerned in the beginning with the amount of contestants that we had with the length and quality of the show, but the girls all had a great time, and we had a great time planning it. Overall it went really well!鈥� 蜜糖直播, a public Carnegie Doctoral/Research University founded in 1906, offers more than 125-degree programs serving more than 20,500 students.
